Afro Boricua con orgullo.

Afro-Boricuas were central to Puerto Rico’s abolition movement. Slavery was abolished in 1873, and free Black Puerto Ricans had already been organizing, buying freedom, and shaping labor and culture before that. Many coastal towns (Loíza, Guayama, Ponce) preserve distinct Afro-Boricua rhythms, language patterns, and festivals that predate modern Puerto Rican national identity. Afro-Boricuas shaped Puerto Rican Spanish, especially rhythm, intonation, and vocabulary used in everyday speech.
